The Graduate Student Assembly is the voice of graduate students at UMass Boston. Do you enjoy planning events? Do you want to get to know new people? Do you want a say in how the fees you pay are being spent? Join the GSA and make sure your voice is heard and your graduate program is represented! If you can’t make today’s (Thursday, October 24) meeting, our next meeting will be held on Thursday, March 10. GSA meetings are held every other Thursday at 4:00 p.m. in the Student Life Conference Room (Campus Center, third Floor). All graduate students are invited to attend!

Recognized Professional Associations
The GSA recently activated several Recognized Professional Associations (RPAs) for the Spring 2005 semester: Association of Health Policy Scholars; Clinical Psychology Graduate Students’ Association and; PASSAGE. Congratulations to these graduate student groups!
News from The Graduate Programs in Dispute Resolution

John Marks, founder and president of The Search for Common Ground will speak about his organization’s media initiatives on Monday, March 7 from 1 – 3:00 p.m. in room 3545 of the Campus Center. Common Ground Productions (CGP) produces programs that seek to change the way individuals and societies deal with conflict: away from adversarial approaches, toward cooperative solutions. CGP is currently involved in groundbreaking projects connecting media and conflict resolution in Macedonia, Cyprus, Burundi, Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the U.S. The event is free and open to the public.
An Alumni Career Panel will be held Wednesday, March 23, from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. in room 3545 of the Campus Center. Alumni of the Graduate Programs in Dispute Resolution employed in healthcare, business, government, higher education, and other fields will discuss the impact the program has had on their professional and personal growth. Faculty and staff of the programs will be on hand to answer questions, and light refreshments will be served. Gerontology Speaker Series
The first event of the Spring Gerontology Speaker Series will be William Crown, Senior Vice President for Health Outcomes Research, at United Health Care/Ingenix, who will give a lecture titled, “What is Really Driving Prescription Drug Costs?” on Monday, February 28, 2005 from 1:00 – 2:15 p.m. in room 3540 of the Campus Center. All are invited to attend.

Professional Development Grants
Do you need extra money to travel to a professional conference this semester? The GSA administers the Professional Development Grant (PDG) program to assist graduate students with the economic burden of traveling to, and participating in, professional conferences and meetings. Grants of up to $400 are available to reimburse students presenting papers or posters, and grants of up to $300 are available for students attending conferences. Please refer to our website for application materials and guidelines. Note that all application materials must be submitted at least 30 days prior to travel to be eligible for review.
