University of Massachusetts Boston women’s ice hockey player Shannon Palmer (Lynn, MA) has been named the Eastern College Athletic Conference East Goalie of the Week for the week of January 10-16. Palmer was named the league’s top goaltender after making her first start of the season and stopping a career-high 40 shots in 60 minutes of action, while allowing just two goals in the Beacons’ 3-2 victory over ECAC East opponent New England College on January 15. The sophomore posted a .952 save percentage (40-42) in her first action of the campaign.For the season, the product of Lynn Classical High School has made one appearance and owns a 2.00 goals against average to go with a .952 save mark, while making 40 saves.
For her career, Palmer has played in 11 games and owns a 5-2-0 record, while maintaining a 3.43 goals against average and an .878 save percentage in 472 minutes and 51 seconds of action. She ranks second on the UMass Boston career list for games played, victories, shutouts (one) and goals against average and stands third in minutes, saves (195) and save percentage. On November 15, 2003, Palmer turned away 17 shots to record the first shutout in school history with a 10-0 win over Salve Regina University.
The Beacons are currently 5-8-0 on the year and 4-6-0 in ECAC East play to stand sixth in the conference standings. The team has won two of its last three games and will be in action again on Friday, January 28, when it travels to Colchester, VT to take on conference opponent Saint Michael’s College at 7:00 p.m.
