The discussions are about all different topics and all are welcome. The first discussion, held on Monday, November 4, centered around the issue of the ballot questions. According to the QSU coordinator, Amanda Ducharme, the discussion group was a success. Topic suggestions are welcome.
Wellness Center Happenings
The new UMB Wellness Center is keeping busy with a bunch of events for November. On November 19, from 11:30am to 2:30pm, in the Provost’s Conference Room, on the eighth floor of the Healey Library, they are co-sponsoring with the UMB Women’s Center, the Second Annual Domestic Violence Luncheon and Silent Witness Exhibit. A panel of experts from Dorchester Court, Jane Doe, and the Gay Men’s Project will speak and also answer questions. Also in November they are sponsoring an event for “The Great American Smokeout” on November 21, from 10am to 3pm, which will fill the McCormack first floor hallway. Keep an Eye Out on Sydney Street
If you walk home from the JFK/UMass MBTA Red Line stop, be especially cautious in the Sydney Street area. According to a police report at a recent Columbia Savin Hill Civic Association meeting, there have been four incidents of robbery on Sydney Street in the past month. The incidents all occurred between 9:30pm and 1:30am, and all of the victims were Asian women walking alone. The MBTA police does have a car in the area for general surveillance between the Broadway and Mattapan stops on the red line. The surveillance officer has been instructed to stay near the JFK/UMass station unless they are out on another call.
