It was a pleasure to be in attendance at this year’s Tchaka night which was a production sponsored the Haitian Center. The entire production was excellent, and although it was billed as a night to celebrate Haitian culture, the stage was also a showcase of Cape Verdean, Latin, and Hip-Hop culture as well.
This production was a great success with traditional Haitian dancers, poetry, Cape Verdean dancing (which resembled salsa), Latin dance, hip-hop, and Haitian fashion. I enjoyed how Haitian students participated in all scenes whether they were strictly of Haitian culture, or of other cultures, which showcased the diversity and unity among UMB students.
Several different centers such as the Cape Verdean club, Casa Latina, off campus groups from other colleges, and dance troops etc. came together to make the production a spectacular success. There was a packed audience in the Snowden auditorium and many of the performances were met with standing ovations. A good time was had by all.
On behalf of the student sentate I would like to give congradulations to the Haitian Center, Casa Latina, Cape Verdean club etc. for putting on an awesome show,(just try to start less than an hour late next time, LOL). The after party was pretty cool also.
