Thursday, October 9 was a beautiful fall day for soccer. The Lynx from Lesley University came to Clark Athletic Center Field to play our UMass Beacons. The first of three goals in the contest came off the assist pass of Beacon junior midfielder Kristen Smoyer. Kristen fed freshman midfielder Jenney Pascarelli, who pulled out her sand wedge and chipped in a 25-yarder over the head of the contesting Lesley goalkeeper.
The Lynx evened the score at 62:10 when Leah Levi found Madawi Nawaf on the cross to make it 1-1. Up until that point the Lynx had trailed for 53 minutes. Finally, at 72:57 sophomore midfielder Lara Miele turned on her turbo boosts and scored off the assist of Kristen Bowes. At that point the Beacons went up 2-1, and stayed up. Bowes played the majority of the game defending the net making 3 saves. She came out of the net at 72 minutes and moved to midfielder. Jennifer Brodbeck, who played the remainder of the game without the goal being tested, substituted Bowes.
Other noteworthy play goes to Lesley goalkeeper Christine Buchanan, who made 11 saves in the match. The Beacons improved to 3-8 on the season, which is there highest victory total since 1997 when they finished 6-10-1 overall. A final score was not available for the Beacons’ Saturday October 11 match at Southern Maine. The Beacons have a week off and then they will be back in action at Clark Athletic Center Field in a Little East Conference match against UMass Dartmouth at 1 p.m.
