Dear Editor,
I want to make you and your readers aware of an amazing Jefferson woman and the project she is devoted to.
You might say that Jenn Borjeson is an angel. Or you might say she’s one of Santa’s hard-working elves. Each winter, the 32-year-old mother of two from Jefferson, MA sees to it that nearly 300 children across the country have a merry Christmas.
For the past three years, Borjeson has directed THE ELF PROJECT, a program of the Internet-based volunteer group, HUGS and HOPE for Sick Children (www.hugsandhope.com).
“Sick children need to know that others care about them.” said Borjeson, who graduated Summa Cum Laude from Becker College in 2002 with a BA in Psychology. “When complete strangers show they care by sending gifts or cards, that means a lot to a child. There are a lot of good people in this world who do care and they’re making a difference for children.”
The HUGS and HOPE organization was founded in 2000 and posts new stories and photos of sick children on their web site each month, asking visitors to the site to send cheery cards, letters, or gifts to the “club kids.”
Last Christmas, almost 200 volunteers “adopted” about 250 sick children and sent thousands of gifts to make the holidays merrier for these children who might otherwise not have had much of a Christmas.
Borjeson said ” Knowing that I’m helping to put smiles on the faces of suffering children means the world to me.”
Borjeson encourages anyone who cares about children to sign up for the ELF PROJECT or several other programs run by the HUGS and HOPE Club. Signing up is simple, just visit the web site at www.hugsandhope.com or email [email protected]
“To be a volunteer, all you need is a caring heart and the desire to help, ” said Borjeson. “It’s such an easy and fun way to show you care. It’s heartwarming to know there are so many kind people in this world.”
