NEASC Evaluation Chief Tours Campus

The head of the team coming in April to evaluate the university dropped by several weeks ago to tour the campus and look at accommodations.

Dr. Michael Schwartz, president of Cleveland State University and leader of a team from the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) met with Provost Paul Fonteyn and other senior administration officials, and lunched with several members of UMass Boston’s self-study committee on August 20.

Schwartz, who has also served as president of Kent State University, toured campus facilities and a nearby hotel, where the NEASC evaluation team will be staying when they come April 10-13.

Schwartz did not return phone calls seeking comment.

NEASC, according to its website, is “the nation’s oldest regional accrediting association whose mission is the establishment and maintenance of high standards for all levels of education, from pre-K to the doctoral level.”

After 8 Years, Sodexho General Manager Departs

Sodexho’s general manager has left the university after eight and half years since starting as its chef, according to a memo sent to the campus community.

Michael Forcier will pursue other opportunities, wrote Forrest Speck, director of auxiliary services, and Daniel J. Eusebio, district manager of Sodexho Campus Services. “Michael’s strong leadership has been influential in the growth and development of the dining program at UMass Boston.”

Speck and Eusebio noted that Forcier served university guests such as President Bill Clinton, and Vice President Al Gore and then-Governor George W. Bush in 2000, when the university hosted one of the presidential debates. Forcier has also worked on numerous recent events, such as the Campus Center Gala and the Pops on the Bay concert.

His replacement, Mike Berry, formerly a Sodexho Area General Manager, took over August 12.

Dean Appointed for College of Nursing

Kent State University professor Greer Glazer will be taking over as dean of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences, according to a recent memo sent out by Provost Paul Fonteyn.

Glazer has twenty years of experience in clinical and college teaching at Case Western Reserve University and Kent State. Her appointment is effective September 1.

With a research and career focus on women’s health, she helped with the development of the first nursing doctorate programs at the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing and Case Western.

She was a visiting professor at Israel’s Tel Aviv University and a consultant to the country’s Ministry of Health. She is familiar with politics and fundraising, as well, as chairperson of the American Nurses Association (ANA) Political Action Committee, lobbying for ANA at both political party conventions this summer.
