UMass Boston baseball played four games in three days to end off the week of March 30. They finished 3-1, including a doubleheader shoutout against LEC rival, Western Connecticut State. They began March 26, facing off against the Johnson and Wales University Wildcats in Providence, Rhode Island.
Despite an early 2-0 lead in the third inning, the Beacons were unable to maintain their advantage. A pivotal rally by Johnson and Wales in the sixth inning shifted the momentum, securing their 3-2 victory. The Beacons used three pitchers in the contest, with Ross Dexter striking out five batters in four innings, leading the staff. He was credited with his second straight loss and now stands at 3-2 on the year. Hunter Ward and Ben Cherry each added three strikeouts in relief.
Next, the Beacons delivered a commanding performance, defeating Western New England University 13-0 March 27 in a game that showcased both offensive firepower and dominant pitching. The Beacons exploded for 15 hits and pitched a shutout, allowing four measly hits.
After a quiet first three innings, UMass Boston took the lead in the third, followed by their impressive offensive barrage in the fourth, scoring five runs. Notably, Tristan Ciampa made his highly anticipated return to the mound after 10 months of recovery from Tommy John surgery. He pitched three solid innings, striking out two out of 13 batters. The Beacons’ relentless offense added another six runs in the seventh, securing the victory.
Mike Meagher led the way with a perfect 4-for-4 performance from the plate, including one run scored. Justin Gouveia had four RBIs and went 3-5 from the plate. He also stole his 10th base of the season.
To end the week, March 28, UMass Boston took on Western Connecticut State in a doubleheader series. They had a commanding performance, shutting out Western Connecticut State University 5-0, and 13-0 in both games. The pitching staff was dominant across both matchups, with Max Moss earning the win in the first game and Johnny Pagano struck out eight batters in the second game. The offense contributed just enough, with key runs coming in the first and seventh innings.
As a team, they showed great discipline at the plate, striking out only once. Mariano Jimenez led the team with three hits, including a triple, double, and single, with one run scored; a home run shy of the second cycle in program history.
In the second game, UMass Boston continued their mastery, holding Western Connecticut scoreless once again, as the Beacons’ hitters added to their lead with a strong 13-0 victory. The double shutout ensured that UMass Boston remains undefeated in conference play, continuing their impressive start to the season with a 13-6 overall record.
Jimenez again led the offense with three hits, including two RBIs and two runs scored. Elliot Miles extended his hit streak to seven games, one shy of his career best. The sweep kept them at the top of the standings in the Little East Conference, ahead of Eastern Connecticut State, UMass Dartmouth and Southern Maine — each with a 3-1 record.
