Beacons baseball started their week with a tough loss against the very good Babson College team. They also delivered a commanding performance at their Senior Day, sweeping the Eastern Connecticut State Warriors in a pivotal doubleheader that bolstered their playoff aspirations.
In a midweek non-conference matchup at home, April 23, Babson College extended its winning streak to seven games by securing a 7–3 win over UMass Boston. Pitcher Johnny Pagano got the start for the Beacons, where he went a full three innings, allowing five hits and three earned runs with the loss. Babson is now 28-13 all-time against UMass Boston and has won five straight games against the Beacons.
Graduate students Bostyn Burris and Richard Williams went 2-for-3 with a run scored for UMass Boston, who recorded seven hits and two errors. With the win, Babson improved to 19-9 on the season, while UMass Boston dropped to 21-12.
Next, on April 27, the Beacons celebrated their seniors Triston Ciampa, Reed Burkett-Schneider, Ross Dexter, Mike Meagher, Keenan Metrick, Mariano Jimenez, Dowd Ritter, and Jake Silveria in a double-header matchup against an LEC rival, Eastern Connecticut State.
In the first game, the Beacons surged to a 6-4 victory. Pitcher Ross Dexter recorded his seventh win of the year, throwing five and two-thirds innings against 27 batters and had a team-high seven strikeouts. UMass Boston was down early when an Eastern Connecticut solo homer in the second inning, followed by a three-run shot in the third, gave the Warriors a 4-0 lead.
However, The Beacons’ offense surged, propelled by grad student Jacob Levine, who contributed three RBIs. Reed Burkett-Schneider put the Beacons on the board in the fourth with a two-run single to center, scoring Elliot Miles and Mike Meagher, cutting the deficit in half. The team amassed 10 hits and capitalized on nine walks, showcasing a disciplined and potent offensive attack.
The Beacons would bring in Lawrence Logan and Kierce Thomas in relief. They would hold Eastern Connecticut scoreless in the final six innings as UMass Boston finished the comeback.
Game two saw the Beacons surge on offense yet again. Pitcher Max Moss tossed seven shutout innings, allowing four hits while striking out five. Jacob Levine and Elliot Miles led UMass Boston at the plate. Levine went 3-4, while Miles went 2-4. Reed Burkett-Schneider and Mariano Jimenez each had three RBIs. As a team, the Beacons went 13-for-3 at the plate in game two, good for a combined .351 batting average.
