UMass Boston’s men’s soccer team is preparing to enter the 2025 season after headlining a fairly successful 2024 effort. The Beacons enter the new year with fresh new talent and high hopes, including the Little East Conference title.
The Beacons led the Little East in 2024, securing second place overall, ranking first defensively and finishing 10-1-6 collectively — a much better performance than their 2023 campaign. Their defense unfortunately did not make up for their lack of offense in both the 2023 and 2024 campaigns.
The heartbreaking tie against Rhode Island College in the semi-finals came as a blow, especially after wiping out teams like Western Connecticut and Rhode Island in the LEC match-ups.
Even though the Beacons did not walk out with the title, they didn’t return empty-handed either, receiving 3 major awards and four all-conference nods. Head coach Jake Beverlin and his staff were recipients of the 2024 LEC coaching staff of the year awards for their guidance and expertise; senior defensive player Logan Erickson-Potter was awarded the LEC Defensive Player of the Year; and graduate goalkeeper Andy Ramirez received the LEC Goalkeeper of the Year award.
Keeping in mind that these star players have exited the team, it rests on the coaching staff to train the fresh talent and mold them into the team. Their ironclad defense allowed only nine goals last season, while the cracks in their offense became more and more visible.
The 2024 campaign gave a peek into the unique chemistry of the team and the bond and trust that the players share as they work towards the same goal. Their unity is their biggest strength, and Head Coach Beverlin is the source of it all. Every season proves that when new faces are introduced, they turn out to be a much-needed addition to the team.
Coach Beverlin has announced the season schedule on the official athletics website as he gears the team up for the upcoming season. The Beacons promise a successful overall 2025 season, and their upcoming home game will set the momentum for the season. Though their familiar opponents try their best to make a comeback every year with new skills and game plans, the Beacons always come out victorious. If history repeats itself, then the team is off to a great start.
The Beacons will kick off their 2025 campaign with a home game against the Salve Regina Seahawks Friday, Aug. 29, at 11:00 a.m.
