The much-anticipated fall semester is beginning, yet traces of summer remain.
Whether it’s soaking up the campus sun or venturing out into the heart of Boston, students still have opportunities to enjoy the final weeks of the season. Here is a curated guide to help make the most out of the lingering days of summer on campus and in the city.
The Student Arts and Events Council is throwing their Fall Concert Thursday on the Campus Center Lawn. This event will run from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., featuring artists from the Boston area. Students can enjoy melodious live music after a long day of classes and discover emerging artists in the city.
For students who miss the Fall Concert, the SAEC will also be throwing their Lawn on B event on Thursday from 7-11 pm on the Campus Center Lawn. The event will feature a glow in the dark park, fun games, free food and live music.
In addition to the many on-campus events to kick off the semester, the rest of Boston is filled with opportunities to finish off the summer season. To discover and support more local artists, Christopher Columbus Park will feature this year’s Boston Arts Festival Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m to 6 p.m.
More for live music fans, Boston holds hundreds of concerts, with artists from around the globe stopping here on their tours. British-Albanian singer Dua Lipa is currently on the road, bringing her Radical Optimism Tour to Boston for two nights on Sept. 9-10 at TD Garden.
For baseball fans, there is still time to catch a game at the historic Fenway Park before the season is over. The SAEC is selling discounted tickets for the Red Sox vs Athletics game Sept. 16 at 6:45 p.m. Tickets are sold in their Campus Center office, Suite 3400, and require a UMass Boston student ID. Also sold in the SAEC office are student discounted tickets to AMC Theatres, the New England Aquarium, the Museum of Fine Arts and other sporting events.
Discounted tickets and group trips to Canobie Lake Park — where students can enjoy thrilling games and roller coasters — went on sale Tuesday, also in the SAEC office. Two tickets are available per UMB ID for $30 each. The bus leaves Campus Center for Canobie Lake Park Saturday at 10:45 a.m. and returns to Campus Center at 7:15 p.m.
