Boston’s own Trident Bookstore, located on Newbury Street, maintains a full calendar of events throughout the year. From movie screenings to arts and crafts, Trident has something for everyone to enjoy.
For trivia fans, Trident hosts Friday Night Trivia weekly from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The event features seven rounds of general knowledge questions, with prizes awarded to the top three teams. Teams are limited to six people, and all tables are first-come, first-served. Admission is free, and food as well as alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages are available for purchase at the cafe. While most nights are general knowledge, themed trivia nights — like “Sex and the City” or “Glee” — are occasionally held.
Sunday nights, Trident holds its Poetry Open Mic from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., with sign-ups beginning at 6:30 p.m. Participants are invited to share original poetry, with each reader allotted about three minutes. The event provides both new and experienced poets an opportunity to receive feedback, share their work or simply enjoy local voices.
Monday, Oct. 6, the Romance Book Club meets to discuss the monthly selection. This month’s pick is “A Witch’s Guide to Magical Innkeeping” by Sangu Mandanna to celebrate the Halloween season. The novel follows Sera Swan, a witch seeking a second chance to get her magic and life back on track. While helping her aunt run an enchanted inn, she meets Luke Larsen, a reserved historian. Throughout the story, their love unfolds, intertwined with her journey of rediscovery.
Tickets are $5 and can be purchased online. Each ticket includes a voucher redeemable for bookstore or cafe purchases during the event. The discussion runs from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to read the book in advance to fully participate in the conversation.
The night after book club, Tuesday, Oct. 7, is “Hooks and Books,” a casual gathering for crafters from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Guests are welcome to bring crotchet, knitting or other fiber projects to work on in community. Beginner friendly kits are available for purchase for those new to the hobby. The event provides a relaxed opportunity to meet fellow makers from the Boston area.
The following Tuesday, Oct. 14, Trident presents two concurrent events. The first is an author conversation with Suzanne Warye — sobriety influencer, podcast host and founder of The Sober Mom Life Cafe — and Gillian Tietz, host of the Sober Powered Podcast. The discussion celebrates the release of Warye’s debut book, “The Sober Shift,” and will focus on their personal experiences with sobriety and moving forward in recovery.
The conversation runs from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., with seating beginning at 5:30 p.m. Tickets, available via RSVP, include a copy of the book which is available for signing after the conversation.
Overlapping with the conversation is The Writer’s Room from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Writers of all genres are invited to bring a work-in-progress piece for focused writing time in a quiet, collaborative space. An optional workshop follows the session. No RSVP is required, though seating is limited. The group meets monthly on the second Tuesday.
