With the legalization of cannabis cafes in Massachusetts this December, legal options for cannabis consumption in the state are once again expanding.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the ballot referendum that legalized recreational marijuana in Massachusetts. As of January 2026, six licensed dispensaries operate in Dorchester. This article will describe and review the strongest pre-roll available at five of them. The sixth, Green Rose, is delivery-only, and its $20 delivery fee is not worth it.
Members of the UMass Boston community seeking a strong, local high have come to the right place.
The legal age to purchase and consume marijuana is 21. All of the joints reviewed here are infused, meaning cannabis concentrates have been added to increase THC content. Experiences will vary, and this review is purely subjective. If you are new to cannabis, starting with something milder is advised. For more experienced users interested in the upper end of THC content, this guide offers a place to start.

Chocolate Cake by Perpetual
Total THC: 50.3%
With THC content this high, even veteran users might expect to feel hazy after a few puffs. The onset is quick, but the experience does not prove overwhelming. A risk when getting high is reaching a point where holding a train of thought feels like work. Despite its firepower, Chocolate Cake isn’t punishingly strong. The build is gradual, and you may find yourself convinced that nearly every thought has great meaning.

Sour Gushers Glass Cone Joint by Packs
Total THC: 55.8%
Sour Gushers comes in a plexiglass tube topped with white rubber meant to resemble sealing wax — a small but appreciated detail. Like Chocolate Cake, it hits hard almost immediately. A Netflix comedy special will seem like a work of genius. Munchies arrive late, but they hit hard. Avoid keeping Ben & Jerry’s in the freezer unless you are prepared to eat alarming amounts of it.
You may plan to listen to mellow music and then immediately switch to something darker. For me, it was Nirvana’s “Nevermind*”* album. The opening line of “Come As You Are,” seems somehow damaged and beautiful at the same time.
Set aside free time for this one. You won’t be productive, but listening to an album all the way through will feel deeply satisfying.

Tangie by GOAT
Total THC: 50.7%
Tangie is sold as two 0.6-gram joints in a striking box featuring a mountain goat wearing a jacket and tie. The high is more powerful than either Sour Gushers or Chocolate Cake, despite its lower THC content than the Gushers. People around you start to sound profound even when they’re saying banal sentences. Funny callbacks to something previously said in conversation roll off the tongue, and a carefully assembled peanut butter and jelly sandwich is the prettiest thing you’ll see all day.
Tangie isn’t the only joint on this list that burns unevenly. The paper, which is unusually thick, simply doesn’t light on one side, and attempts to correct it often make things worse. That said, this is the best of the five. Tangie hits in waves. The first few times you think you’re coming down, you aren’t. You’re in for another wave.

Lamb’s Bread by Nature’s Heritage
Total THC: 45.3%
Refreshingly, Lamb’s Bread’s burn is fairly even. Munchies come and go without fully taking hold. Asking someone if they’re ever amazed by their own legs seems like a good idea, and your reflection in the window is endlessly fascinating. Like the Gushers, any music fan smoking this will feel compelled to listen to an album all the way through. For me, it was “Automatic for the People*”* by R.E.M. The somewhat moany singing is oddly fitting for a high that’s fairly introspective, especially on “Everybody Hurts.”

Purple Grapewreck by Skinny Bone
Total THC: 42.8%
You may find yourself focusing on distractions more than you should with this one. Be advised that it might make you a bit jumpy, but also philosophical. The second half of the high is certainly palpable but calmer than any other joint on this list. The high sets in quickly and lasts about an hour, the shortest high of any on this list. By the standards of strong marijuana, this is a relative quick fix.
April 20, now recognized as “Weed Day,” is still a ways off, and it falls on a Monday this year. For those already planning to celebrate, these joints are worth keeping in mind. If you choose one of them, chances are you won’t need another.
