For the second year in a row, the University of Massachusetts Boston Women’s Soccer team has been crowned Little East Conference Regular Season Champions, retaining the throne with a 7-0 drubbing of Rhode Island College at home on November 2. After honoring Senior Captains Alli Modzelewski, Tayla Andrews, Samantha Cristoforo, and Julie Nutting prior to the game, the Lady Beacons got down to business. After taking a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute on a goal by Modzelewski, All-American Junior Krista Ledin took over, as she so often does, by scoring three consecutive goals in the 21st, 35th, and 53rd minutes.
Andrews found the back of the net at the 55 minute mark, followed by Ericka Garufi with a goal of her own three minutes later. Andrews added her second goal of the game to round out the scoring in the 75th minute to top off the outburst for the Lady Beacons. The teams three goaltenders Kristen Spain, Dani Perkins, and Jess Charette all saw action in the shutout. The Lady Beacons finish the regular season 15-4 and 6-1 in Conference play while Rhode Island College fell to 5-11-1 and 1-6 in the conference. The team will now host the winner of the four v. five seed quarterfinal match-up in the Little East Conference Tournament Semi-Finals scheduled for 2 P.M. on Thursday, Nov. 7 at the Clark Athletic Center Soccer Field.
