After what felt like an endless winter, it’s time to pack away the fluffy parkas, heavy coats, and industrial-sized packs of hand warmers because spring has finally come. If you’re stuck on what to wear, here’s a short list of my go-to ideas for spring.
For spring dresses, I’m a fan of boho and babydoll dresses. Boho dresses have that loose and easy-going feel to them that matches spring. They also usually have the best patterns that make you want to stick a flower in your hair. Babydoll dresses have the same loose quality that makes them look flattering on almost every body type.
Another favorite piece of mine to have is a pair of overall shorts. I’d choose to wear them over a striped or crochet crop top. Overall shorts have a fun, quirky look to them and are unbelievably comfortable.
Something I’ve recently become interested in is A-line skirts. I think they look best with collared shirts, especially Peter Pan collars. The A-line style reminds me of what housewives would wear in the 1950s, but at a shorter length they look more modern and cute.
Something else that is simple and easy for everyone is draped shawl cardigans, or any roomy cardigan that flows. I love the way these look with denim shorts and a tank; it’s effortless but still makes you look put together.
Lace and linen shorts are another style I would recommend. Lace has a flowery-look to it that belongs in spring, and linen shorts have a soft, clean look. I would wear both with a high-necked tank top and strappy sandals.
As devoted as I am to skinny jeans, I’ve started to warm up to the idea of ripped boyfriend jeans. My change of heart occurred after seeing Kylie Jenner wear her boyfriend jeans with a striped crop top and high tops. The outfit was very ‘90s grunge, which in my opinion is hard not to love.
In addition to the ‘90s grunge style, I have to mention flannels and how great they are. Personally, I tend to prefer flannels with the colors black, gray, dark green, and burgundy because they give off that grunge vibe. I would wear a white tee, boyfriend jeans, and black high tops with the flannel. I particularly like when flannels are worn tied around the waist too.
My favorite shoes to have for spring (and pretty much all year) are ankle boots and simple sneakers like low-top Converse and Keds. They go with basically everything. Sneakers are comfortable and the best for days at school and work, or if you’re planning on doing a lot of walking. I love ankle boots with boho and babydoll dresses because they’re still simple, but have a cooler, edgier look to them.
I’m not a huge supporter of embellishments on clothing, but I do plan on stocking up on embellished sandals this spring. They work well with otherwise simple outfits to brighten them up a little bit. I would recommend wearing embellished sandals with an outfit with neutral tones, especially nudes or light pinks.
I’m not a frequent hat-wearer, but a hat I wouldn’t mind seeing more of this spring is fedoras. A look that I think always works is boho dresses, ankle boots, and floppy brim fedoras. Vanessa Hudgens’ boho chic style is one of my favorites, and she can always pull off wearing a fedora without looking ridiculous.
As for bags, I prefer mini satchels and mini bucket bags for spring. Mini satchels are perfect to carry all your essentials and would look good with pretty much anything. I love bucket bags with casual outfits because they’re slouchy and convenient for every day.
Now that we’re moving on to warmer, sunnier days, it’s time to get a pair (or several pairs) of sunglasses. A new style that I want to try for spring is the cat-eye. Cat-eye sunglasses are a flattering look and also a more feminine style.
For jewelry, I usually stick with simple gold and silver midi rings. Since it is spring, I would look towards gold and silver rings with pastel accents to incorporate those colors into a spring outfit.
I’m trying to keep it simple and comfortable this spring. All of these pieces are versatile and easy to work with, so I would suggest picking up a few!
