UMass Boston Men’s Soccer
In the third week of the season, University of Massachusetts Boston Men’s Soccer team remains at the top of the Lower East Conference and undefeated. Coach Jake Beverlin is confident that the team can win the LEC on consecutive years. Currently the team is 6 and 0 overall and 2 and 0 in conference. This marks the best start in the program’s history. “We’ve done a great job as a team this season,” said Beverlin. “We’ve also had a couple of big individual performances. Recently Guilherme Barbosa scored a hat trick for us, Menawy was rookie of the week, and Cunha was defender of the week. The team’s had no real test this season thus far, but the remainder of September will have its challenges.” Teams like Keene State and UMass Dartmouth should be difficult matches for the Beacon side. In the past 2 games, UMass Boston has scored 7 goals and conceded only one. UMass Boston beat Salem 5 to 1 and Rhode Island 2 to 0. The next upcoming games are against Wentworth and Southern Maine, September 22nd and 26th. The Beacons are favored in both.
 
UMass Boston Women’s Soccer
After a great start to the season, UMass Boston Women’s Soccer team hit a 3 game bump in their schedule. In those 3 games, the Beacons were unable to walk away with a single victory. Despite the short slump, the team has been able to turn things around in their second conference match. This week the Beacons had a crucial conference win against an evenly matched Rhode Island College team. The Beacons are now 2-3-1 overall and 1-1 within the Little East Conference. Coach Amy Zombech is confident in her squad’s ability and believes that the team will finish as a top side in the LEC if they can remain consistent on the field. The Beacons have a young roster this year, but the team has shown glimpses of quality play and experience. Next game, September 22nd, the team is facing Emmanuel College, and September 26th, they face the LEC team Southern Maine. Southern is a crucial game for the Beacons. A win would put them atop the LEC standings.
 
UMass Boston Women’s Volleyball
UMass  Boston Women’s Volleyball is having difficulty finding victories in the opening of their season. The program is off to their worst start in the past decade. Currently the team is 0 and 1 in conference play, losing most recently in a tough match against the well-rounded and talented Eastern Connecticut. In the past 3 games the team is 1 and 2, losing to Eastern University and Eastern Connecticut, while winning against Endicott. The Beacons are now 2 and 8 in all regular season games. Despite the poor record, the Beacons still anticipate being a top side within the Little East Conference. Condon stated their strength in schedule is, “in the top 10 of the nation” for Division III NCAA volleyball. “We’ve had a tough start to the year, but there haven’t been many conference games,” said Captain Pepper Baker. “We still have all of our LEC games left except Eastern. Our first 10 games were against the best teams in the nation. Hopefully we can learn from these games and make a run in conference.”
 
UMass Boston Women’s Tennis
Following a slow start to the season, UMass Boston Women’s Tennis team began to find their footing on the court. In the first 2 matches of the year, the Beacons suffered consecutive losses. Following the losses, the Tennis Team went 2 and 1, winning an important match against Worcester State and Eastern Nazarene. “The Worcester State victory was a crucial match for our team,” stated Coach Berg. “We have only one chance against each conference team and every win matters. If we want to reach the LEC tournament, we need to win our LEC matches.” 2 or 3 wins would put the Beacons into the postseason picture. The Tennis Team is now 1 and 1 within the conference and 2 and 3 overall in regular season play. The team faces Southern Maine and Rhode Island in their next 2 games. Walking away with 2 wins would put them at number one or two in the conference.
 
Cross Country
The UMass Boston Cross Country program is approaching their third meet. In the first two meets the Beacons finished in the bottom fourth of the meet.
