UMass Boston went up against Little East opponent Rhode Island College on Saturday, but came away empty handed as Rhode Island put the ball in the net ten different times for a 10-0. The shutout by the Anchoragewomen Rhode Island College left the Beacons without a goal for the fifth consecutive game and, more importantly, winless for the season.
Rhode Island dominated the play from the beginning. The Beacons struggled all half to get the ball past midfield. RIC’s players scored six times in the first half led by Kerri Ferreira, who had six points for the game including three goals.
The second half was not much better for UMass as gave up four more goals. The Beacons did penetrate into RIC territory a few more times than they did in the first half, but goalkeeper Melissa Carpentier went untested as she did not face a shot for the entire game. On the other side, junior goalkeeper Kristen Bowes of UMass made 27 saves.
