The Rush for Classes BeginsRegistration for the Spring 2008 semester begins Nov. 26, with Dec. 14 the end of the Fall 2007 semester. Exam week is Dec. 17 to 21, and the Winter 2008 session begins two weeks after, on Jan. 7. The Spring 2008 semester is scheduled to start on Jan. 28, with the add/drop period ending on Feb. 4. Students looking for help with their schedules should drop by the advising office on the first floor of the Campus Center to schedule an appointment or call 617-287-5500.
Healey Stairs Open for Use!The stairs to enter the Healey Library and the catwalk reopened on Nov. 8 after the Division of Capital Asset Management deemed them safety and sufficient for use. The opening is temporary, as there are deficiencies in the top landing due to weather damage that need to be fixed, but engineers have declared the stairway safe for use. Construction to replace the stairs will most likely start in the summer of 2008.
Do Guys Make Passes at Girls Who Wear Glasses?Apparently, they do. According to a study done by the Vision Council of America, 92.2 percent of men and 91.1 percent of single men surveyed disagree with the statement that “guys don’t make passes at girls who wear glasses.” As well, 58 percent of men said that women who wear glasses look “intelligent,” 31 percent described them as “fashionable” and only 10 percent said that women wearing glasses look “nerdy.” For more information on the study, as well as trends in eyewear and the importance of checking those baby blues or wide-eyed browns once a year, visit www.eyecessorize.com.
Peta2 Names Top 10 Most Vegetarian-Friendly CollegesPeta2, the more mainstream website version of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, announced the 10 most vegetarian-friendly colleges in the U.S. and Canada. Number one on the list was Northwestern University in Chicago, with Yale and University of California Berkley rounding out the top three. UMass Boston Nights on the Town: Yamato DrummersThe next Night on the Town hosted by the Student Arts and Events Council is at Cutler Majestic Theater on Dec. 1. Tickets to see Japan’s Yamato Drummers are $25 for students and $35 for faculty and staff, with a maximum of two per ID. Tickets can be purchased in the Student Activities and Leadership office on the third floor of the Campus Center.
