A vote on the DREAM Act may come as early as today, September 21st, in the US Senate. Despite heavy lobbying from students, Republican Senator from Massachusetts Scott Brown says that he is vehemently opposed to a bill that would provide a route to citizenship for undocumented immigrants through military service or college graduation. He called the bill “amnesty” and said that supporters are “playing politics with military funding.” Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid would like to add the immigration measure to the defense bill. Republicans say they would oppose such a bill, and accuse the Democrats of playing politics. News of Senator Brown’s stance on the DREAM ACT comes as Immigration Advocates are holding a vigil outside of his Boston office.
