By now, you’ve heard that Scott Brown’s Tuesday victory for late Sen. Edward Kennedy’s seat is set to change the political narrative in 2010. Defeating Democrat Martha Coakley was quite the feat, but what other accomplishments has the new 41st Republican senator achieved? Brown was reportedly caught shoplifting at the mere age of 12. A judge sequentially punished Brown with a 1500 word essay. Brown enlisted in the Massachusetts National Guard at the age of 19. He rose to the rank of lieutenant colonel and served as their head defense lawyer in New England. As a 22 year-old Boston College law student, Brown was named “America’s Sexiest Man”. The 1982 issue of Cosmopolitan magazine featured Brown posed naked. Brown began his political career in 1992 as an elected assessor in Wrentham. He was elected to the state’s House of Representatives in 1998 and the State Senate in 2004. A champion triathelete who begins his daily workout regime at 5 o’clock in the morning, Brown claimed his campaign was treated like a “sprit triathlon”. Brown has also played basketball since a young age. He acquired the nickname “Downtown Scotty Brown” while playing as an undergraduate student at Tufts University. One of Brown’s daughters, Ayla, placed in the top 16 of the fifth season of American Idol. In 2007, Brown defended himself and Ayla against a series of attacks on Facebook in response to Brown’s participation in a high school debate on gay marriage. Brown publicly announced the name of the students who wrote vulgar statements. During his recent U.S. Senate campaign, Brown managed to raise $1.3 million dollars online in a single day.
