This past weekend the University of Massachusetts Boston Recreation and Intramurals hit the ground running to kick off yet another high-intensity semester. UMass Boston’s Winter Carnival brought in some great energy, an event where students could showcase their skills on the inflatable courses and back yard games in the Clark Gymnasium, or take their talents over to the Edward T. Barry Ice Rink and skate around to some good music! If you want to join in next time, UMass Boston Recreation is hosting a Skate Night on March 1 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the Clark Athletic Center. Bring all of your friends and skate it out to some tunes with free skates, just be sure to have your student ID on you!
Although the intramural leagues have not started up yet on campus, that did not stop us from compiling a team and entering a basketball tournament at Springfield College! UMass Boston was represented by Bergomi Francois, Quentin Bethea, Douglas Hill, Charles Gayflor, Darnell Browne, and Richie Nicolas, who played against University of Albany, Salem State, and UMass Lowell at the tournament. With a fairly successful weekend in the books, our tournament team is super excited to start the regular season in the Clark Gymnasium! Our men’s five-on-five basketball league as well as our co-ed five-on-five basketball league start Feb. 11! There will also be our four-on-four volleyball league starting on Feb. 12, and our indoor cricket league starting Feb. 14! Another important date for the calendar is our three-on-three basketball tournament taking place March 19. In the middle of March Madness, teams will battle it out for bragging rights and of course some UMass Boston Intramurals merchandise…and maybe even more. Be sure to come and play or support your friends and classmates in all of our leagues! If you want to start a team or join one you can sign up at IMLeauges.com.
