To some, it may have seemed like just another week at intramural sports, but for those of us on staff, we know that with each new week comes a plethora of excitement. Two new staff members were thrown into the arena to officiate some fiery match ups, along with our veteran officials. The night got off to an explosive start with Court One featuring the teams Scrubs and OHYEAH. The game resulted in a win for OHYEAH as they pulled ahead to achieve an 18-point spread. The two teams brought a solid defense to the table, both with evenly driven offensive effort. Honorable mentions for OHYEAH included George Moutsopolous, Jason Mei, Jacob Smith, and Yosef Tefera, while John Mulvehill and Joey Paulo brought their A-game for the Scrubs.
Later in the night, things heated up with Walking Bucketz pitched against L.O.J, which was a very close game ending in victory for L.O.J by five points. Markley Leandre and Roger Izach Bravo put up 23 points and 15 points, respectively, to drive the team to victory. Walking Bucketz did not fall easily; Mouhamdou Ndaye led the Bucketz with 15 points and six rebounds, while his teammate Peter Tsagaroulis followed close behind with 14 points. Exceptional officiating by Bergomi Francois, Bryce Mileski, and Jonathan Hodge kept the games crisp and clean.
Over on Court Three, AD Trade Package took on the 781ers to set the bar high for the night. Although it was a low-scoring game, it was evidence of a good defensive matchup. The 781ers took the lead with minutes left in the game and stuck with it to the finish line. Charles Gayflour of the 781ers had an exceptional game, evenly matched on the other side by Emmanuel Dolce and Dennis Haughton.
The next game was a nail biter through to the end, resulting in a tie between Rim Destroyers and White Mamba: Resurgence. These two feisty teams will likely meet again down the road to battle it out on court, hopefully ending with a victor. Ahmed Ahmed and Tenzin Phelgay scored 11 and 14 points, respectively for the Rim Destroyers. With 25 points from Jonathan Dor, White Mamba: Resurgence was able to stay in the game until the very end. Stop by the Clark Gymnasium next week from Monday to Thursday nights to cheer on some of your friends and classmates!
