Men’s Soccer: After ending the regular season with a double overtime draw against Western Connecticut State University, UMass Boston’s men’s soccer team fell once again to Western Connecticut in the first round of the LEC tournament. This ended their strong season, and it was even more crushing due to the fact that they lost in penalty kicks. Overtime ended with the score 0–0, and they then lost 4–3 in PKs. The Beacons finished with an overall record of 12–3–4; certainly a very successful season to say the least. Unfortunately, while their overall record was great, their 4–2–2 conference record is perhaps what did them in. Rather than being a top two seed as their overall record would have indicated, they ended up being the five seed and had to play on the road. Either way, it was a good year for UMass Boston, and they will be poised to come back even stronger in 2020. 
Women’s Soccer: UMass Boston’s women’s soccer team won the LEC championship this past weekend with a 4–0 shutout over Western Connecticut State University. This puts their unbeaten streak at 17 games, and people really should have seen this coming. The Beacons won the regular season Little East title, and further solidified their dominance by winning the championship. Sophomore Mary Jo Murphy won the Most Outstanding Player of the tournament thanks to her stellar play throughout the postseason. Their record now sits at 19–2–1 and they have not lost a game since Sept. 10. While they definitely should be celebrating over the LEC title, the Beacons will need to prepare for the NCAA tournament. Their placement for it will come out at some point this week, and we will soon see where they play next. Go Beacons!
Volleyball: After what was somewhat of a subpar regular season, UMass Boston’s volleyball team just went on an incredible run and won the Little East Conference tournament. The Beacons finished the regular season 9–18 overall, and 5–3 in the LEC. This earned them the four seed in the tournament, in which they defeated Keene State College 3–1 at home in the first round. Up next was a road game at top-seeded Western Connecticut University, whom the Beacons upset with a 3–2 victory. Next up was the three seed, Plymouth State University, and UMass Boston once again took care of business with a 3–1 win. Winning the LEC title is something that never would have even been a thought mid-season, but the Beacons showed their adversity and strung together a great end to the year. They will now await their placement for the NCAA tournament later on this week.
