Romney and Healey Campaigning Away in Dorchester
On Friday September 29, Republican gubernatorial candidate Mitt Romney and his running mate, Kerry Healey, took their campaign to Dorchester’s Kit Clark Senior Center. Romney spoke about home health care issues and the impending dilemmas that future tax cuts may create. Acting Governor Jane Swift is considering cutting $6.5 million from the home care program to help close a $350 million deficit and Romney answered questions of how he would deal the situation. He also talked about several other issues, such as his proposal to merge certain state departments, prescription drug costs
Healey announced that two debates are scheduled to take place in the upcoming weeks with Democratic gubernatorial candidate Shannon O”Brien’s running mate, Chris Gabrieli.
McCarron Gone But Not Forgotten
Horse racing legend and Dorchester son Chris McCarron had feature stories written about him in the Boston Globe and Boston Herald. McCarron, 47, retired last summer after an illustrious career of nearly 30 years. His accomplishments include racing in the Breeder’s Cup Classic and the MassCap. He occasionally raced at the local horse track of Suffolk Downs.
Blarney Stone To Host Road Race
The first annual Blarney Stone 5K Road Race & Fitness Walk will take place on Sunday, October 6. The Community Resources for Justice is sponsoring the event. There will be a post race cookout and celebration with trophies and gifts being awarded to top finishers in each division.
The Blarney Stone, which is located in the Dorchester neighborhood of Fields Corner, is coming up for its one-year anniversary. The restaurant opened last fall as part of Boston mayor Tom Menino’s Main Street Project.
Those interested in participating in the race should stop by the Blarney Stone, 1505 Dorchester Ave. Dorchester for an entry form or go to www.coolrunning.com for an online version. There are several pre-registration sessions for the event, which cost $15. Registration on race day will cost $20.
