2003 Michael Lentz Award Winner
Congratulations to Warren Hynes for being awarded the Michael Lentz Award her research, “The Story of Street Performers in Boston and Cambridge: or haw balloon twisters, living statues, one-man bands and jugglers have come to claim space and foster a shared public culture.” The Michael Lentz Award is named in the memory of an American Studies graduate student who tragically killed two years ago and is granted to a Masters student engaged in non-traditional research of high academic integrity.
This joint award is sponsored and managed by both GSA and American Studies Program. Warren Hynes will receive a $100 cash award as well as have his name placed on a plaque that is displayed in the American Studies Department.
Application and instructions for the 2004 Michael Lentz Award will be on the GSA and American Studies website in late fall 2003 and is open to Masters students from all departments. The application deadline will be March 10, 2004. Contact Shauna Manning from American Studies for more details on the Michael Lentz Award.
Educational Support Grant
Forty awards worth $100 each are given each semester to applicants with the highest GPA. All matriculated graduate students (full-time or part-time) with nine credits are eligible to apply. Deadline for the grant application is June 30, 2003. Please check the GSA http://www.gsa.umb.edu for details and application forms.
Professional Development Grant
Do you want to attend a conference, seminar, workshop, training session or a symposium but do not have enough money to pay for the entire trip? The Graduate Student Assembly offers the Professional Development Grant (PDG), which reimburses students up to $500 for travel expenses and fees. Some restrictions and limitations apply. Please check the GSA’s webpage for more details.
