Beacons baseball has risen three games over .500 at 12-9 after splitting a doubleheader at Babson college April 4.
UMass Boston is playing their best baseball so far this season, having won seven of their last ten games, all of which comes after their return from their spring break trip to Auburndale, Florida.
The Beacons have done it with their bats; they’re hitting .332 as a team through their 21 games, and they’ve scored double-digit runs ten times with a season total of 197 runs — both good for second in the Little East Conference.
The Beacons hold an early 3-1 record within the Little East, having beat Western Connecticut State twice and Keene State once. Keene State is tied with the Beacons for second place in the conference, trailing only Southern Maine, who is a perfect 6-0 against LEC opponents.
UMass Boston’s red hot offense has come behind junior infielder Elliot Miles. Miles is hitting .430 so far this year, which is, by far, a career high. His average is the third best among LEC hitters. Miles has already hit six home runs — the second most in the LEC — which is one more than he hit between his sophomore and junior seasons: Six bombs in 21 games compared to five in 82.
However, their lineup has been anything but top heavy. Eight Beacons that have played at least 75% of games are hitting .300 or above. Another notable hitter has been junior catcher Brandon Gaer. Gaer is hitting just shy of .400 at .395, almost as many at bats as Miles. He’s not slugging like Miles is. Gaer is without a homer so far, but he’s hitting the ball to every part of the field and can’t stop getting on base. Gaer hit a career low .222 last season in 38 games and has turned his offensive output around big time in 2026.
Cameron Fisher, a junior pitcher, has come on in his first year with the Beacons from the mound. Fisher has posted a 3.30 ERA in five starts this season: That’s ninth in the LEC. Fisher has a perfect 3-0 record thus far. Two other UMass Boston pitchers slot into the LEC’s top 15 list in ERA: Jonny Pagano with a 5.76 and Robert Wunsch with a 4.91.
The Beacons have had solid starting pitching, but a standout arm has come from the bullpen. Owen Ellsworth is a freshman holding onto an impressive 2.65 ERA in six appearances — 17 innings pitched. Ellsworth has struck 15 batters out while just walking three, an excellent K/BB ratio of five. Ellsworth has recorded one save with a 2-1 record.
