Thank you, Mass Media

As the semester winds down to an end, The Mass Media prepares to say goodbye to a few of our staff members. Here are their parting words from the paper, and we wish them the best in their future endeavors!
Kaushar Barejiya, News Editor
I joined The Mass Media during my first year as a writer and stepped into the role of News Editor during my sophomore year. Working for the paper has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my college journey. I attended events like Mayor Wu’s Annual City Address, National College Media Conventions in NYC, Mayoral Forums and many more that I would not have otherwise been able to. As much as I loved covering city news, I also enjoyed the process of reporting campus news. Over the years, I learned the importance of having a college newspaper that is at the forefront of reporting campus stories and covering different topics including administration, campus life and sports. I am really proud of the work The Mass Media team puts in every week for every issue. As a team, we try our best to hold ourselves accountable as the primary source of information for both the UMass Boston student body and surrounding community. I want to extend my gratitude to my readers for being supportive of my work. As I conclude my time at The Mass Media, I will be taking on other leadership positions on campus. I would not have come this far if it were not for all of the support I received.

My time as the Opinions Editor for The Mass Media has been a whirlwind of discovery, opportunity and connection. It’s helped me get further in touch with the wonderful UMass Boston community, and I wouldn’t be where I am now without it. I think that UMass Boston in general has great potential to become an incredible university, and I’m glad to have been a Beacon. As I move on to a career in communication, what I learned from my experiences here will serve as the foundation of my abilities and as the training ground for my continued activism and advocacy.

No matter where life goes from here, my years at UMass Boston will always be some of the most memorable ones in my life. I think the same goes for anyone who attended around the same time. The Mass Media gave me an outlet where I could write about art that I liked, and later, things that made me and my friends laugh. After this semester I’m probably going to take a little break before making any other big moves but I guess anything can happen. Life is unpredictable like that.
