Cristian Orellana and Aidan Phuong were elected Friday as president and vice president of the Undergraduate Student Government, defeating Omar Singhateh and Jean-David Kouame 182-125.
Orellana said he looks forward to advocating for all students. “I’m just excited to start trouble. I’m excited just to get started with work, honestly,” he said. He thanked current USG members, supporters and his opponents. “I’m going to have to represent them as well,” he said.
The elections committee heard two complaints Friday alleging that the the Singhateh-Kouame campaign violated the election guidelines about proximity to students while they vote and unverified endorsements. The committee found both reports to be well-founded and voted to disqualify 2.5% of their votes for the two infractions.
The committee also voted to reduce the Orellana-Phuong campaign’s votes by 1% because of a complaint that their campaign’s social media used a song that included profanity, in violation of the campaign guidelines.
