Men’s and Women’s Hockey
This week was for more than just Thanksgiving. Weekly awards were as bountiful as Turkey and all the fixings, as Men’s and Women’s hockey players received accolades from the Eastern College Athletic Conference East.
Adam Larrabee and Eric Tufman both received player awards for their performances on the ice. Larrabee was named ECAC East Player of the Week and Tufman was named ECAC East Rookie of the Week.
In two games, Larrabee had three goals and three assists while Tufman scored two goals and collected three assists. Larrabee leads his team in points, goals, assists, and power play goals.
On the women’s side, Jessica Sams was named ECAC East Goalie of the Week. Sams made 46 saves in the Beacons only game of the week, a 3-2 victory over Connecticut College. Sams’ save percentage is a tidy .957 this year.
Men’s and Women’s Basketball
The Men’s basketball team fell to 1-3 last Tuesday as Emerson College beat the Beacons, 74-64. Ernst Jean was the Beacon’s top scorer, dropping 14 points while grabbing nine rebounds.
UMass Boston’s three seniors – A.J. Titus, Amigo Paniagua and Mark Doran – scored a combined 19 points in the loss. They committed eight turnovers. Doran was a perfect 5-5 from the field.
The women’s basketball team lost to Fitchburg State College, 91-60, on November 20. Three Lady Beacons – Caroline Ashe (10 points), Mairi Lamson (12 points), and LaKeisha Tucker (11 points) – scored in double figures.
The women shot 35.1 percent from the field in the loss. They were outscored 41-27 in the second half and turned the ball over 37 times.
Upcoming Games
Men’s hockey plays Babson College at home Wednesday, December 5 at 7:00. Babson’s record is 4-0-1, as of November 29. The Beacons are idle until Friday, December 28, when UMass Boston hosts the 43rd annual Codfish Bowl, the longest-running invitational hockey tournament in Boston.
Women’s hockey will be at home Sunday, December 9 to host Castleton State College at 2:00. Castleton’s record, as of November 29, is 1-2-2. The Lady Beacons are idle until Saturday, January 5 when they host their first-annual Codfish Bowl Tournament. The action starts at 12:00.
Men’s Basketball will be home against Worcester Polytechnic Institute Tuesday, December 4 at 7:30. As of November 29, WPI’s record is 3-2. The Beacons will then be on the road at Salem State College (Dec. 6, 7:00) and Eastern Connecticut State University (Dec. 8, 3:00).
