MTV to invade UMB

Later on this spring, Music Television will invade the University of Massachusetts – Boston. That’s right, MTVu is coming to UMB.

On May 4th, MTVu will be holding the “Campus Invasion Music Festival ’08” here at the UMass Boston Campus Center. The all day concert will feature much more than just live music, with an entire festival of giveaways, games, and activities planned.

Grammy winning superstar Wyclef Jean is the biggest name on the marquee, the day will be filled with some of the hottest names in music taking over the Harbor Campus.

From 3:00PM – 9:00PM, the Campus Center Circle will be the sight of showstopping performances from Jean, as well as Flo Rida, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, and The Spill Canvas. From hip hop and reggae to alternative and rock, there is sure to be something for everyone.

Most of the time a concert like this might put quite a dent in the wallet of your average college student. Not this time. Tickets for the festival are only $5 for UMB students (4 tickets max.) and $8 for UMB faculty and staff and will go on sale in the office of Student Affairs starting Monday March 24.

The event will be taped and broadcast nationally on MTVu, the music television mega-channel’s college centered sibling. MTVu broadcasts to 750 campuses and 7.5 million college students, being shown in dining halls, fitness centers, student lounges, and dorms. Coinciding with the concert will be the launch of MTVu here at UMB.

Wyclef Jean, a former Grammy winner and member of the hip-hop trio The Fugees, is best known for his myriad of collaborations with some of today’s biggest artists. Flo Rida had already hit number one on the charts with his collaboration with T-Pain, “Low.” Seen on the MTV reality show “The Hills,” Red Jumpsuit Apparatus adds a little kick to the lineup. “The Spill Canvas” will bring an alternative edge to the day.

So, get out on Sunday May 4 and be there when MTV comes to UMB.
