UMass Boston’s athletes did something that hasn’t been accomplished since April of 2004.

For the week of April 21-27, four Little East Conference awards were handed out to Beacons athletes, and it was the first time four athletes from four different teams had won awards in the same week since April 12, 2004.

“I thought we had a good week,” Vice Chancellor of the Athletic Department Charlie Titus said. “Any time we can get our student-athletes recognized by the conference, it’s a bright spot.”

Men’s tennis player Jovan Jordan-Whittier received Little East Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for the third time this season, while women’s softball player Lauren O’Conner was awarded with Little East Softball Player of the week.

Mike Andriano of the baseball team won Conference Pitcher of the Week, and Jared Kinch of the lacrosse team was named Men’s Lacrosse Rookie of the Week.

Jordan-Whittier, the number-one seed in the Little East Conference Flight One Singles tournament, beat Bridgewater State’s Matt Charest 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 in the semi-finals and Southern Maine’s Josh Warren 6-0, 6-2 to garner the honors.

Lauren O’Connor ripped the cover off the ball, hitting .588 in six games, collecting nine runs, scoring four times and slugging .765 for the week. In the team’s doubleheader sweep of Mass Maritime Academy, O’Connor was 6-for-7 with seven RBI’s, four runs scored and three doubles.

Mike Andriano pulled his team out of a six-game, in-conference losing streak by pitching seven innings, striking out eight and walking two, while allowing only one unearned run in the Beacons’ 4-2 win over Plymouth State University last weekend. The win was Andriano’s second of the season.

Jared Kinch netted seven goals and contributed two assists in the Beacons’ three games last week, while scoring the game-winner in UMass Boston’s 10-6 win over Mass Maritime Academy. Kinch is second on the team in points (32), and has registered at least one point in all but two games this season.

Back in 2004, Pat Donovan won baseball Rookie of the Week; Dan O’Neil received Defensive Player of the Week honors for the lacrosse team; Quazi Sadruzzaman was named Men’s Tennis Player of the Week and Siobahan Lynch was awarded Softball Player of the Week.
