I’ve been visiting a number of eateries in the area around school and we will get back to those eventually, but this week I have decided to travel a few stops down the red line into Kendall Square.

Located only five to ten minute away from the Kendall Square T station, the Cambridge Brewing Company is one of the best microbreweries around.

Whether you are looking for someplace out of the way (Kendall Square is one of the least noisy places in Cambridge) or if you are looking to grab a bite after catching a movie at the Kendall Square Cinema located just around the corner, the Cambridge Brewing Company is the perfect choice for a meal on any occasion.

In the warmer months you can sit out on the patio and enjoy the cool breeze. In the colder months head inside, the restaurant is housed in a refurbished mill building. High ceilings and earth tones make it a warm and inviting place to enjoy your meal. The staff are all very friendly and well versed in their knowledge of beer, wine, food and the best ways to pair them up.

The menu itself leaves you with a number of options to take in choosing your meal. They’ve got your average bar food, buffalo chicken tenders, nachos, burgers, and steak. But for those who may be a little more adventurous, there are items on the menu that you may not be used to seeing in the local bar. Appetizers like Ahi Tuna Wonton (tuna in spring rolls), deviled crab cake, and the beer and cheese plate (three types of cheese paired with three 6 oz. beers) are some of the more exotic selections. There are also salads, house, Caesar, fall mixed greens, Asian chicken, and one consisting of baby spinach, arugula, endive and radicchio) that are big and hearty enough to be meals in themselves.

There are sandwiches, blackened chicken, pulled pork, and a falafel and hummus wrap among them. Seafood entrees (fried haddock, seared ahi tuna, grilled salmon, pan roasted swordfish, and a fisherman’s stew) dominate the menu, but you can also find pan roasted chicken, filet mignon, pork chops, eggplant lasagna, and a roasted garlic and balsamic dressed fettuccini. They also offer brick oven pizzas after 5pm. There are specialty pizzas as well as create your own pizza with a large variety of toppings.

Daily specials are offered that will excite the taste buds and make your choice that much harder. Deserts consist of a molten chocolate cake, crème brulee, ice cream from Cambridge’s own Toscanini’s, and golden ale poached pear, among others. There are white and red wines from around the world (Germany, Italy, Australia, Spain, France, and, of course, California) by the glass and by the bottle.

But the real reason to make your way down to Cambridge Brewing Company is the beer. They offer house beers that are always on tap, their own versions of the golden ale, pale ale, amber, and porter. Seasonal brews are offered year round. One of the best pumpkin ales I’ve ever tasted, a Scottish heather ale, and the Bitchin’ Bitter are the current seasonal offerings. You really can’t go wrong at Cambridge Brewing Company, the beer, the food, the atmosphere, they are all worth the trip.

Cambridge Brewing Company is located at 1 Kendall Square, Building 100, in Cambridge. Go to www.cambrew.com from more info.
