Volleyball Battles back but loses in 5 games The Lady Beacons started off slow, but heated it up in the final two games, only to see their hard work fizzle away in a grueling match that lasted 2:15. Megan MacAuley (19 digs) and Emily Thompson (17 digs) led the way defensively for the Beacons while Kate White continued to support the offense for the Beacons, coming up with 16 kills. After running off a win streak of four games, the Lady Beacons have now dropped three straight, putting them at 5-10 overall and 0-2 in conference, leaving them tied for last place.

Men’s Soccer Continues Steady PlayThey may not be running off win streaks, but the Men’s soccer team has been getting the job done. After dropping a tough game to conference rival Southern Maine 2-1 last weekend, The Beacons went into Salem State College with something to prove: and they did just that.Emile Pierre-Louis and Ludji Chipps both scored unassisted goals and Paul Maniscalco made six saves in the Beacons’ 2-1 victory on Tuesday. The men ran their record to 7-3 overall, but are still winless in conference (0-2). Coach Myles Berry emphasized that the schedule only gets tougher and that every conference game only gets bigger. Women’s Soccer Loses Fourth StraightThe Lady Beacons are having a tough time of it currently, as they have now lost four consecutive games, running their record to 2-7. Tuesday proved to be a frustrating game for the ladies as they were only able to put one shot on goal in a 3-0 loss to Fitchburg State. Leavitt Continues to Lead Way for Men’s Cross CountrySenior runner Mike Leavitt continues to be the role model for Umass Cross Country. Leavitt finished the 40th running of the Codfish Bowl with a time of 27:15, placing him 12th overall.In doing so, Leavitt was awarded Little East Conference Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week for the third time in his career. The winner of the annual run was Evans Kigan of New York Institute of Technology with a time of 25:12. He helped lead his school to the top spot among collegiate competitors. The Greater Boston Sports Club took the overall title in the event.Jose Ramirez made his UMB debut and finished with a time of 29:12, while Ryan Norton (31:19), Patrick Day (33:07), and Filipe Zamborlini (43:48) rounded out the finishers for the men.

Bryant Once Again Leads Way for Women’s Cross CountrySenior Yelena Bryant once again was the top finisher for the Lady Beacons in the Codfish Bowl, as she crossed the finish line with a time of 23:27 in the five-kilometer run. Her time was good enough for a 49th overall finish among college runners. Sophia Sieveking (24:19), Joy Risko (24:38), Tamzin Partridge (26:14), and Maggie Horton all finished the race for the Lady Beacons. This race was the UMB debut of Tamzin Partridge, a freshman from England.
