A large fire caused damage to the building and some of its collections on April 15. The library was closed, and did not reopen until April 30.

The John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum announced on April 29 that the building would reopen for regular business hours on April 30. At 10:10 a.m. on April 30, the museum’s Twitter account published an announcement: “We are officially open for business!”

The museum building caught on fire on April 15 slightly before 3 p.m., at almost exactly the same time that two bombs went off at the Boston Marathon.

An extensive investigation by local and national authorities has ruled out foul play as a cause of the fire. Rather, the fire report states that the incident was caused by smoking materials that were not disposed of appropriately.
