If Maloney wins at the Hard Rock he’ll compete globally for the Grand Prize of touring world wide.

Come listen to Michael Maloney, a senior at UMass Boston, as he performs at the Hard Rock Rising Global Wide Battle of the Bands 2013 on March 7 at Hard Rock Café Boston, located at 24 Clinton Street.

Out of the 250 entries from the Boston area, 12 performers will compete at Hard Rock Café Boston, in the hopes of becoming the local finalist and go on to compete globally. Maloney and the 11 other performers were selected through public voting and are set to play across a series of three nights.

Each band submitted a recording which local fans listened to and voted for on the competition’s Facebook page. The 12 with the most votes were able to move forward to the next stage of the competition.

“It’s exciting to have been selected, and I hope that the UMass Boston community will check out the event,” Maloney said.

The doors open at 8 p.m., and the event is 18 plus. There is a $5 cover charge, and the proceeds go to Music Drives Us, a charity that raises money to support music education programs.

Maloney is also competing in the Irish Idol singing contest sponsored by Shamrock Nation through WROL 950 AM. He is one of the six finalists who will perform live in the hopes of being named Irish Idol 2013, at the Berklee College Performing Center on March 23

All you have to do is vote at shamrocknation.com to show your support. Not only can you listen to some new tunes, but your vote can help cascade Maloney to victory.
