2/17/2013 8:12 p.m.

A purse was stolen near the Shaws on Morrissey Boulevard, then discovered by someone walking from Shaws to the Doubletree Hotel. The man who found the purse called Campus Safety, who gave the purse to the Boston Police Department.

2/19/2013 12:55 p.m.

A staff member working in Wheatley called to report that her iPad mini had been stolen from her office.

Campus Safety came to inspect cars parked in handicap spots without handicap stickers. Upon closer inspection, it was discovered that the cars had valid handicap plaques.

2/19/2013 7:29 p.m.

An officer reported a strong odor of gas inside the Bayside Exposition Center.  Facilities and National Grid were notified, and the building was evacuated. Facilities traced the smell to the heating system on the roof of the building, which was then disconnected. At 8:30 p.m., Dorothy Renaghan, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Facilities Management, re-opened the building.

2/20/2013 7:28 a.m.

Three students reported various items stolen from a locker that they share in the McCormack Building.

2/20/2013 12:39 p.m.

A 19-year-old student in McCormack experienced extreme dizziness and complained to officers that her heart was racing. An ambulance transported her to the emergency room at Tufts Medical Center.

2/20/2013 3:06 p.m.

Another student in the McCormack Building reported that her heart was racing. This student also suffered from nausea and blurred vision. She was taken to Boston Medical Center.

2/20/2013 5:20 p.m.

Items were stolen from multiple lockers in the Beacon Fitness Center. One of the victims of the theft, an international student whose phone and wallet were stolen, did not know how to recover his credit card. 

2/21/2013 9:22 a.m.

Someone reported a student to Campus Safety because he appeared in a Youtube video dancing with a gun on the UMass Boston campus. Officers located the student and took him from class. He had the weapon from the video, a BB gun, in his possession. Officers took the BB gun and let him return to class. After class, the student came to the station to further discuss the incident. 

2/21/2013 11:37 a.m.

A wallet was turned into the lost and found containing a white substance wrapped in wax paper. Tests revealed the substance to be cold medicine.

2/21/2013 3:32 p.m.

An employee in the Jazzman Cafe in the Healey Library called about a woman who appeared to be ill. When emergency services arrived, the woman stated that she did not want to go to the hospital. She explained that she was suffering from sciatica. Officers walked her to her car. 

2/21/2013 4:41 p.m.

A student with epilepsy had an attack in the Campus Center. Emergency services offered to take her to the hospital, but she refused. 

2/21/2013 5:01 p.m.

A small water leak in the garage between the Upper Level and the Lower Level set off fire alarms in the Campus Center. The building was evacuated, and the fire department was called. At 5:15 p.m., the building was re-opened.
