Fall Special Elections for senate positions took place at the Undergraduate Student Government’s first General Assembly of the year, on Sept. 25. Speaker Ignacio Chaparro presided over elections in the Campus Center Ballroom.
While the Undergraduate Senate filled all positions at the end of the Spring 2013 semester, several senators-elect have since dropped out. Fourteen of the 33 senate seats were empty.
Last year’s Fall Special Elections, the first ever in which there were more applicants than available seats, had 19 prospective senators competing for 11 positions. This year, 14 people showed up for the 14 seats, and no seat was contested.
Each prospective senator gave a timed speech. Each had exactly two minutes to present his or her case. And each was rewarded with a seat on the USG senate.
