UMass Boston’s food service provider Sodexo is launching a brand new eatery located in the corridor overlooking the lawn on the first floor of the Campus Center in the dining hall. El Faro will open April 2, offering made-to-order burritos and burrito bowls, including a buffalo chicken burrito, starting at $4.29. Patrons will pay for their meal at the counter, which will also sell an array of beverage, side and dessert options.
David Levine, general manager of Sodexo, hopes that El Faro, which means “The Lighthouse” in Spanish, will draw people out of the congested main galley, shorten lines, and create a dual purpose for what is now mainly used as an exit from the dining hall.
“We have outgrown the food court,” Levine said. “That is why we keep coming up with new options for students, we have to maximize the space we have. We figure burritos will sell. Congestion in the corridor may become an issue depending on the store’s popularity. We will have to see how it goes.”
El Faro will be open Monday-Friday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
