The first floor terrace of UMass Boston seemed to be unusually crowded on April 11 as the “Spring Into Wellness Alternative and Complementary Health Fair” took place, hosted by University Health Services.

Healthcare providers ranging from dentistry and mental stress relief, to yoga and bicycling, met to share with students the many forms of health practices one can partake of in and around the city of Boston.

The practitioners and members of the organizations present at the fair were more than eager to explain their health practice offers. They informed students that the first class or lesson of activities such as yoga and Wudang-style martial arts is often free, a great opportunity for those interested in exploring new ways to be healthy.

There were stands for meditation, including a Shambala stand that offered a running meditation workshop. It included information about the Falun Dafa Association, an advanced self-cultivation practice of the Buddha School.

The Neighborhood Health Plan also sponsored a stand. The plan helps MassHealth members increase their opportunities for health care, and provides such things as discounts on childbirth classes, bike helmets and home safety products.
