One and Done

Norma Cumbee scored 20 points and Myrna Tanger grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds, but the Lady Beacons lost 75-68 to Eastern Connecticut State University in the opening round of the Little East tournament.

UMass Boston, the seventh seed in the tournament made a run late in the second half, but could not finish it off. The Lady Beacons scored 16 straight points to get within four points with 4:27 left, but Eastern Connecticut’s Stephanie Smith made a game-changing steal that was converted into a lay-up and theWarriors held off UMass Boston.

The Lady Beacons finish the season winless on the road but have plenty to look forward to. The team is only losing four seniors and will have young, energetic point guard Stephanie Vasquez, among others to patrol the parquet next season.
