Psychology Club Hosts Discussion of Male Survivors of Sexual AssaultWhen one thinks about the victims of sexual assault, usually they are imagined to be women. However, men suffer sexual assault as well, and while it happens in smaller numbers, possibly because of underreporting, it is an issue that is not in the forefront of public discourse. The Psychology Club will be hosting an event on May 7 from 4-6pm on the 11th floor of the Healey Library entitled “A Discussion of Male Survivors of Sexual Assault”. Guest speakers for this event are Jim Hopper, PhD (BS ’97), who is currently working at McLean Hospital in Belmont, MA, and Curtis St. John, who is the National President & Chairman of the Board of Directors of Male Survivor: National Organization Against Male Sexual Victimization. The event is being sponsored by Psi Chi and the Women’s Center, and for more information please contact Michael Wood at 617-642-4064 or via email at [email protected].

Student Publications to Release Spring IssueIt may be hard to believe, but the Mass Media is actually one of many student publications here on campus. Sure we here at the Mass Media are the oldest, most well respected, and publish more frequently, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t check out some of the other media around school. In fact, two publications are releasing their much anticipated new editions in the next week. CHORD, a magazine featuring the work of ESL students, is releasing their spring issue on Friday May 9 on the first floor of the Campus Center from 11:30am-1:00pm. The Watermark, UMass Boston’s journal of the arts, will be holding a release party on May 12 in the Point Lounge (Campus Center 3rd floor) from 12pm-3pm. If you can read, you are qualified to attend and if you cant, now would clearly be a good time to learn.
