Wick’s Two Cents

There are always topics to ponder and opinions to take in the canon of Boston sports. Each week, the Mass Media will talk to Alan Wickstrom, UMB’s Sports Information Director, and get his opinion on a relevant Boston sports topic.

This week, Alan tells us who he thinks should be the Red Sox’ game one starter when the postseason arrives.

Josh Beckett. He’s easily got the most postseason experience on that team. I think that, when it comes right down to it, there are pitchers who are money pitchers and pitchers who are pitchers who are having great seasons.

I think Fausto Carmona would be an example of that. The guy had an unbelievable year last year for Cleveland and they got into the postseason and he didn’t perform as well.

I think that Josh Beckett, whether he goes into the postseason with a 12-11, 14-12 record or a 20-6 record, he is the pitcher, right now that teams least want to face in the playoffs. Whether it’s imagined or real, I truly believe that other teams fear him most in the playoffs.
