And The Award Goes To…

Given out during the luncheon, the Buy Recycled and EPP Award is a public service awards program sponsored by the MA State Operational Services Division in cooperation with the Executive Office of Environmental Affairs and the Dept. of Environmental Protection.

Outstanding Environmental Vendor Award:

Conigliaro Industries : for their leadership and innovation in Env. Preferable Product (EPP) manufacturing and recycling difficult-to-manage wastes; (UMB’s recycling vendor, probably their third award in the past couple of years)

New England Office Supply (NEOS): for their leadership and commitment as a state vendor that has considerably expanded range of 100% recycled material products, demanded so from their manufacturers and exceeded the state’s contractual environmental criteria. (UMB’s College Supply orders and stocks materials from them).

Outstanding Agency Purchasing Award:

MA Registry of Motor Vehicles: for its purchases of $ 18,000 recycled carpet and tile, and currently over $ 100,000 spent in purchasing remanufactured office cubicles, and commitment to energy conservation in several of its branch offices over the past year.

Metropolitan District Commission (MDC): most innovative program award for the use of recycled plastic fish ladders instead of pressure-treated lumber, which leaches toxin, to restore non-functional fish ladders in the Charles River Watershed Environmental Restoration Project.

Hospital Supplies and Equipment Procurement Management Team: for their commitment to implement the Zero Mercury Strategy. MA has virtually eliminated mercury from its major statewide medical-surgical supply contract and includes mercury reduction language in their dental products contract.

Outstanding Municipality Purchasing Award:

Town of Dartmouth

Town of South Hadley

(Honorable mention: Towns of Chicopee, Maynard and Franklin)
