Senate Votes to Activate

The UMass Boston Student Senate approved the activation of 48 Student Clubs for the 2001-2002 academic year at their October 16 meeting. After each club successfully completes paperwork training through Student Life, they will be officially activated, receive $250 in funding from the Senate and be allocated office space.

Clubs that are new to the UMB campus this year include the Albanian Club, Artice Club, Blast, Boston City Club, Deshi Student Society, Fox Investment Club, Hopalong Theatre, Ju-Jitsu Club, Radical Alliance of Green Environmentalists, Sarawati and Students Organizing Under Pressure.

Reactivating this year are: Accounting & Finance, African Hut Club, Arab Students, Ballroom Dance Club, Biology Club, Campus Players, Catholic Student Organization, Chemistry Club, Chinese Culture Association, Classics Club, Ethiopian Student Association, French Club, Geography & Earth Science Club, Golden Key National Honor Society, Haitian Club, International Socialist Club, Japanese Club, MassPIRG, Math Club, Mock Trial Club UMB, Multicultural Social Committee, Muslim Student Association, Nursing Club-Senior, Philosophy Club, Politics Society, Prelaw, Premed, Real Life, Republican Club, Socialist Club, South Asian Youth Association, Student Art Club (SAR), Student Nurses Association, Survivors Inc., UFO & Enigmas, Upside Down Club and Vietnamese Student Association.

The Senate also filled a number of leadership positions. Rocky Graziano was elected chair of the Budget and Finance Committee, Richard Bell was elected chair of the Campus and Community Affairs (CCA) Committee and Manan Nayak was elected Faculty Council Representative.

In other action, the Senate approved a funding request for $1,200 from the organizers of a Multicultural Festival to be held on November 2 and approved $2,605 for a Halloween party to be held on October 31.
