Beacon Update

Baseball: The UMass Boston baseball team got off to a fast start this season and never stopped. They finished 34-8, and 11-3 within the Little East Conference (LEC). They marched their way through the LEC tournament, eventually winning the conference championship and advancing to the NCAA regional tournament. The Beacons will meet Penn State Berks in the first round in Harwich, Connecticut. Game time is at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 17.
Lacrosse: The lacrosse team’s season came to an end on May 1. It was a very up and down season, finishing slightly below .500 overall, with a record of 8-9 and a conference record of 3-4. After falling to Plymouth State University in the season finale, the Beacons met Plymouth State in the first round of the LEC tournament. The result was ultimately the same, with Plymouth State taking the victory in the tournament, and ending the Beacons season. With more consistency in their performance, the Beacons should find themselves back in the playoffs next season, and hopefully with a better result.
Women’s Track and Field: After not placing at the preliminary round of the NEICAAA, UMass Boston finished tenth among 39 teams on Saturday, May 12 at the NEICAAA Tournament. Their next tournament will take place on Thursday, May 17, at MIT in the Last Chance Meet.
Softball: The UMass Boston softball team saw their Cinderella season come to a screeching halt on Sunday afternoon. The Beacons, despite finishing with a losing record overall and in their conference, found themselves in the LEC Tournament. Not only was UMass Boston there, but they won the LEC tournament. However, their miraculous season came to an end over Mother’s Day weekend. The Beacons lost both games, and were eliminated from the NCAA tournament. Despite a loss, UMass Boston’s softball team accomplished a lot despite their place in the standings, and that is something to build on for next season.
