Who Stepped Up? Molly Rattigan & Cassy Hanneman

Volleyball

The two seniors from this year’s squad have had great careers with the Beacons. They were honored as part of the home finale, in which they demolished Keene State 3-0. Molly is 3rd on the team with 232 kills, and she is 2nd on the Beacons with 82 blocks. Cassy leads the team with a stunning 976 assists, and she also had 55 kills for UMB this year. She is one of the captains this year for a fantastic Beacons squad that is entering the LEAC tournament at 22-4.

Men’s Soccer

11-5 (3-4 LEAC)

The guys closed out their season this week with 2 solid wins at home. They beat Mass Maritime 3-1 on the Oct. 26 and bested Plymouth state on the Oct. 29 4-1. Stefanos Galouzis closed the year out with the Beacon lead with 12 goals and seven assists. Brycen Dowd enjoyed a historic year in goal in which he played every minute for the Beacons. His 7 shutouts is a Beacon single season record and he saved 78% of the shots he faced. The Beacons failed to qualify for the LEAC tournament despite a fantastic nonconference record, so they have plenty to build upon heading into 2012.

Women’s Soccer

12-6-1 (3-3-1 LEAC)

The ladies began their home stretch of the season this week with an easy 4-0 win at home against Framingham. The ladies fought through the cold and got on the board just before halftime with a score from Kellie Gomes. Krista Ledin and Kristin Mulry also tacked on goals to go up 3-0, and Framingham tacked on their own goal. The only other match of the week for the ladies was a slugfest against Plymouth State that ended with a 0-0 tie after two overtimes. Dani Perkins set both the UMB single season and career shutout records with her 9th of 2011. The ladies are set to host UMass Dartmouth in the first round of the LEAC tournament later today, November 1st.

Volleyball

22-4 (6-1 LEAC)

Coming off of a 3-0 loss to Wellesley on the 19th, the ladies entered their conference match against Plymouth State on Tuesday, the 25th looking to get back on track. They were handed their first LEAC loss of the season 3-0 at the hands of the Panthers. That was a costly loss because it means that the LEAC tournament will force the Beacons to try to defend their crown on the road. They wrapped their home season up with a 3-0 win over Keene, and carried that momentum into their regular finale, a hard fought shutout over Brandeis. Now the real test begins, with a trip to Plymouth State as the 2 seed in the LEAC tournament, with an NCAA championship birth in the balance.
