Julissa Salazar, a senior at Josiah Quincy Upper School, performed at the Lunar New Year festival on February 22. Her outfit, a traditional red silk gown that highlights only one of the many forms that traditional Chinese dress can represent. “My dress is from Beijing… it’s a customary look,” Salazar said, looking down at her outfit. It’s only fitting that she’s wearing such a beautiful Chinese garment: “I’ll be performing tonight. I’m singing a song,” she said, seemingly unnerved. Her performance of “Let Love Live in My House,” was beautiful and nearly fluent. Salazar has an interest in the Chinese culture and will continue to embrace that interest beyond her performance.
