Sophomore attack man Ryan O’Rourke (Milton, MA) tallied six points on three goals and three assists to lead the University of Massachusetts Boston men’s lacrosse team over Clark University, 11-5, Thursday, March 24, at the Clark Athletic Center on the campus of UMass Boston. The Beacons improve to a perfect 3-0 on the season, while the Cougars fall to 1-2.

UMass Boston jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first quarter behind a pair of goals from O’Rourke and goals by sophomore midfielder Christopher Hanafin (Burlinton, MA) and junior attackman Patrick Donlan (Norwell, MA). Clark got on the board just 42 seconds into the second stanza when Andrew Webber took a feed from Serge Shnayder and scored to make it 4-1. Webber added another goal with just 31 seconds left in the second quarter, but Hanafin and freshman middie Jonathan Ruiz (Longmeadow, MA) both netted a score for the Beacons in between Webber’s two goals for a 6-2 UMass Boston halftime lead.

The Cougars scored the lone goal of the third period when Joseph Becher came through with 44 ticks left on the clock to make it 6-3. It would be as close as Clark would get, however, as UMass Boston scored five of the next six goals in the fourth period to give it an 11-4 advantage before Webber capped the day’s scoring with his fourth tally of the afternoon. Donlan and sophomore attackman Matt Ficarra (Syracuse, NY) each netted a pair of goals in the period for the Beacons and O’Rourke added a score as well.

Dan Stern finished the day with a pair of assists for the Cougars, while Derek Lundquist and Serge Shnayder each added a helper.

Hanafin contributed with four points on a pair of goals and two assists for UMass Boston, while Donlan registered three goals and Ficarra collected three points on two goals and an assist.

Sophomore goalie Nick Eaton (Rowley, MA) stopped six shots to earn his third straight win for the Beacons, while Alan Green made 11 saves for Clark.

UMass Boston will be in action again when it visits a Little East Conference rival UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday, April 5.
