UMASS BOSTON’S HANAFIN NAMED LITTLE EAST CONFERENCE MEN’S LACROSSE OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

University of Massachusetts Boston men’s lacrosse player Christopher Hanafin (Burlington, MA) has been named Little East Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the week of April 4-10, it was announced on April 11 by the conference. It marks the third time this season that a UMass Boston player has garnered the award.

The sophomore was a scoring machine for the Beacons on the week, netting 13 goals in three games for an average of 4.33 per game. He also added an assist to give him 14 points on the week in addition to seven ground balls. The attackman was consistently potent on the week, scoring four or more goals in all three contests. He netted a season-high five goals in UMass Boston’s 10-6 victory at Little East Conference foe University of Massachusetts Dartmouth on April 5. Two days later, the Burlington High School product found the back of the net four times in the Beacons’ 14-6 win over Salve Regina University and capped the week with five points on four goals and a helper vs. Keene State College in an 11-10 Little East Conference loss on April 9.

Hanafin has been outstanding all season for UMass Boston leading the team with 21 goals in just his second season, while adding five assists to give him 26 points to rank third on the squad. He also has 17 ground balls on the year and has committed just two penalties in seven games.

Hanafin now has 81 career points, including 55 goals and 20 assists and was named a 2004 Little East Conference Second Team All-Star as a freshman.
