Four Gubernatorial Candidates Make Dorchester Appearances

With less than a month to go until the primary for governor, Tom Birmingham, Warren Tolman, Jill Stein and Robert Reich all made campaign stops in Dorchester recently.

Tom Birmingham discussed education at the Edward Everett school on Aug. 15, fresh after garnering endorsements earlier this month from both the Massachusetts Teachers Federation (MTF) and the Massachusetts Teachers Association (MTA), two separate unions who rarely unite in endorsing candidates.

Robert Reich visited Savin Hill Apartments, an assisted living facility, where he spoke to senior citizens. Reich pleged a state government-mandate rebate for prescription drug consumers and to offer seniors the choice between a nursing home and home health care-a plan Reich estimated could save Massachusetts $40 million.

Warren Tolman and Jill Stein, along with appearances at UMB, (see story, page A2,) also visited St. Mark’s Church to discuss auto insurance for city dwellers. In attendance were State Representative candidate Ed Geary, Jr., Suffolk County District Attorney candidate Eddie Jenkins, and representatives from the offices of State Senator Jack Hart, State Rep. Martin Walsh, and City Councillor Chuck Turner.
